Flora & Fauna: Intro to Historic Uses
Explore and discover the variety of flora and fauna of the park and find out how previous generations relied on the bounty of the forest to survive and thrive! Many basic needs such as food, medicine, shelter, clothes, household items, and more, can be found within the Explore Park boundaries! Hands-on samples of animal and plant products will be available, as well as other educational resources. Course meets at the Journey's End Parking Lot. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Pre-registration is required.

Happy Groundhog Day!
Did you know that Groundhogs are the only animal to have their own U.S holiday? Our naturalist will help to separate facts from fiction and teach you about one of Virginia’s largest rodents! Are Groundhogs part of the pig family? Do they chuck wood? Does Punxsutawney Phil and his family really have a summer and winter home? Join us to find out and have fun! Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Pre-registration is required. Please dress weather appropriate. This program meets at Visitor Center.

Nature Story, Hike, and Craft
Join the park naturalist for a nature story, hike, and fun and educational nature craft! Enjoy a story about the wonders of wildlife, then bundle up and head outside for a nature walk. After we explore the winter landscape, we will head back inside for craft time and hot chocolate! Please be prepared for indoor and outdoor activities. This program is geared towards children and families, but all are welcome to attend! Pre- registration is required and children must be accompanied by a registered adult. This program meets at the Visitor Center.

Owls in Love
Did you know that most of the owls in Virginia court, mate, and raise their young in the winter? Join us to learn about these fascinating birds of prey and which ones call Roanoke County their home. We will discuss how to identify them, what they eat, and how they feed their young. Participants will dissect an owl pellet, and even meet an owl in person! Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Pre-registration is required. Please dress weather appropriate. This program meets at Visitor Center.
