Astronomy for Beginners
Gaze up at the wonders of the night sky with the Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society. This beginner program will explain how to use a telescope and begin focusing in on the far away treasures in the sky. You are encouraged to bring your own telescope to learn more about it or if you arent quite there yet, there will be telescopes provided. Chakras are an ancient system of identifying energy centers within the body. Each corresponds to an aspect of our outer and inner lives. Chakra Dance is a well-being practice using flowing and dynamic movements, a series of moving meditations. Prestige Gymnastics for School Age (ages 5-12)
Each and every gymnast in our recreational program receives multitudes of one-on-one attention! This class boosts self-esteem and confidence as each gymnast will soon see their skills improving and bodies toning. We give our gymnasts big goals and encourage them to push themselves to succeed! Although this gymnastics class is not being held in an actual gymnastics facility, we will continue to be extremely goal oriented as we work balance, tumbling, coordination and more! Our classes are based off of USAG curriculum and mixed in with fun and effective drills. These classes will be training on a multitude of equipment. Our Beginner Program at Green Ridge is an entry level class that introduces the wonderful sport of gymnastics and build up basic skills so one day we can move to a more advanced class! T'ai Chi
Originally developed as a Martial Art for self defense, T’ai Chi is a non-competitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and dynamic stretching. Taekwondo (Family age 5+)
Taekwondo classes at Green Ridge are designed to teach martial arts and fitness in a structured but fun environment. We help kids develop a focused mind, a coordinated body, a courteous nature, and a positive attitude. Kids, teens, and adults alike will improve fitness and coordination while learning self-defense skills that help build confidence and focus. Students can sign up individually or have the whole family try together. Fee is per person. Instructors Cameron and Sarah Starnes have years of experience and are 2nd degree blackbelts. No uniform required-wear comfortable clothes. In addition to martial arts instruction, emphasized will be the five tenets of taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit.

The workshop is designed to raise awareness of everyday tasks and to protect yourself in situations. Contact will be part of the workshop so make it fun and bring a friend! Spring Sports Sampler (ages 3-4, 4-5)
Indoor Soccer, Basketball and Indoor T-Ball! For the beginner athlete! This program will center on learning the beginning skills of each sport and good sportsmanship in a non-competitive, fun environment. Kids have a chance to learn the fundamentals of soccer through kicking, passing, dribbling and fun skill drills. Kids will learn basketball through passing, dribbling, shooting and fun skill drills. T-ball they will learn skills to help with throwing and hitting the ball off of a tee with drills and running the bases. This skill development program will run for 9 weeks, the first three weeks will be soccer, then three weeks of basketball and end with t-ball. By the third week of each skill, we will put it all together for them to play in a group with teams. This program is introductory of each sport so therefore formalized games with teams will only be introduced and not competitive. Each player will receive a t-shirt, trophy and team picture at the end of the program.
