Nature Art
Express your creative side and learn about nature in this fun and educational program! Participants can choose from a variety of activity stations. Make leaf prints and learn which trees the leaves come from, or paint a picture using "paints" from nature! This program is messy, so please dress accordingly! Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Program meets at the Visitor Center.

Young Naturalist Series
Learn from our naturalist all about the flora and fauna of the area to work towards becoming an Explore Park Young Naturalist! Complete all sessions to receive your badge! Each session covers a different topic and will provide the opportunity to assemble materials and supplies, such as reference books, that will complete their Young Naturalist study kit. An adult must participate with each student to enhance the learning experience. Dress for outdoor activities and bring a water bottle. Pre-registration is required. This program meets at Journey's End Parking Lot.

Rainwater Catchment 101
Explore the techniques of collecting rainwater for use in a vegetable, forest, or rain garden. Learn how to size a cistern or rain barrel system appropriately, how to encourage groundwater replenishment, how to design swales, and how to incorporate small DIY rainwater fed ponds or wetland into your property. This course will be a formal lecture, discussion, and walk through of some of the techniques.

Forest Garden Ecology 101
Learn the basics of how to design and create a diverse perennial food forest. After this class you should have an understanding of how to weave the different elements of a designed plant community to produce many berries, mushrooms, herbs, fruit, and nuts on a small or large amount of land. It is recommended that you also take the rainwater catchment 101 class to get a full comprehensive picture of how to care for a forest garden.

Wild Things
Take a step on the wild side! Get up close and personal with animal ambassadors from the SW Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke! The first meeting will present a variety of reptiles and amphibians. Meeting two will feature insects and other crawly things. The final meeting will showcase animal that utilize their camouflage! This is a FREE program! No registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Program meets at the Visitor Center.
