All about Indian desserts: Come and learn the art of making Indian treats using three different main ingredients- Rice, gram flour and cream of wheat. We will make Kheer (Indian Rice Pudding),
Besan Burfi (Gram four cake) and Suji Halwa (Cream of wheat dessert)

Cooking with Barbara (ages 18+, August-November)
Bon Appetit! Guten Appetit! Buono Appetito! Do you have an interest in learning how to prepare some international dishes or a vegetarian meal? Then this fall's cooking classes are for you. During our monthly cooking classes, we will prepare a Tuscan pasta sauce recipe, a dish from Southern France (Provence region), a Southern German recipe, and a German vegetarian spinach meal. August's menu is Tuscan pasta sauce with shrimp, baked cauliflower, ciabatta with a garlic-olive oil dip and tiramisu. September will feature carrot and cucumber salad, beef burgundy, parsley potatoes, brie cheese and french bread, and creme caramel for dessert. Oktober (October) will be Maultaschen (filled pasta pockets) and a fresh fruit tart. November will be creamed spinach, boiled potatoes, fried egg and cream puffs. All materials and instruction provided. Instructor Barbara Hassell is from Stuttgart, Germany and lived there until age 20. She has a BA from Roanoke College, a MALS from Hollins in German Studies, and a PhD from Virginia Tech in Cultural Studies.

Indian Cooking Green Ridge (18+, Fall)
Fall is about comfort food! September will feature Dum Aloo (white potatoes cooked in a yogurt-based sauce), Kadahi Paneer (Indian cheese in a pepper and cream sauce) and Zarda (traditional rice dessert with nuts and raisins). October is a vegetarian menu of Rajma (red kidney beans cooked in a thick tomato-based sauce), Baigan Bharta (an eggplant dish), and for dessert Rabdi (sweetened milk prepared with select nuts). November will warm you up with Shaami Kabaab (Spicy beef cutlets), Veggie Biryani (rice cooked with seasonal vegetables) and Pinni (a dessert with gram flour, whole wheat flour and Urad daal).
